Our stay in the Pond House rooms was truly fantastic. It was just heavenly to stay right in the midst of our very own pond and in rooms which were airy, bright and very clean. There are 2 rooms in the Pond House, Nos. 8 and 9. Room 8 has great side and front views, whereas Room 9's side view is the stony path.
Before you read ahead, check out: Overview of Pond HouseDetails of Rooms
Each room
has its own attached bathroom. Inside each room is: large double bed and sofa,
a table on the side of one bed, an exhaust fan (very sensible, as we had to
keep the windows closed due to the extremely cold weather), wall phone to
contact the main office, curtained windows with mosquito mesh on one part of
the window.
There is a wash basin with mirror outside the bathroom (the
loo is inside the bathroom). Outside each room is a wooden dining table and 4
wooden chairs.
Best of all: a swing on the porch! So basically it is a
sit-out porch and if you are a group of 4 you can really have a grand time. It
is like having your very own house in the middle of a lake! There are also lovely Warli painting on the beams over the porch area, as elsewhere in the premises, such as on the cottage walls.
In-between the two rooms is a table with a wall phone to
connect to the main office (Dial 100). Clean drinking water is also available
via a water filter.
Another excellent benefit of booking the Pond House rooms is
that you have your very own “butler” service. You don’t need to go to the
common dining area at all for your breakfast or meals. It is brought to you in
large steel tiffins. Tea/coffee is brought in thermoses and served in pretty La
Opala mugs.
Room Facilities
Hot water is available at the Pond House via a solar panel. You
have to inform your room attendant when you wish to have a bath &
accordingly he will turn on the lever of the solar panel system. Remember to
inform him when you finish, so that he can then turn it off.
You have to bring your own toothpaste, toothbrush, bathing
soap and hand towel (for wash basin) and bath towels. There is also no laundry
service. On enquiry, it seems that they did at one time provide towels to
guests. However, the large groups staying in the independent cottage meant
giving each member an individual towel & apparently some of them would take
away the towels. Quite appalling and basically stealing, hence not surprising that
it was stopped.
There is an electric mosquito-repellent in the room, which
is advisable to switch on before 6p.m. itself so that you are not troubled by
mosquitoes while sleeping.
The bed has a pull-out drawer containing extra pillows, rugs
and woollen blankets, as also hangers (see photo above). On our first night we had used the rugs
as covers and only when we came to know that there were woollen blankets in the
other room that we realized that we could get warmer covers at night. So we
asked for, and promptly received, woollen blankets for our room too.
There is a stack of 4 extra beds in a corner, next to the
sofa. So more people can stay in the room or even sleep out on the porch (not
really a good idea though, due to mosquitoes outside).
To sum up: overall a very comfortable, homely stay in
charming rooms!
