Farm Tour at Save Farm Gholvad

One of the many highlights of our wonderful trip to Save Farm, Gholvad was the tour of the farm conducted by Mr. Anil Save. One tip to note here is that the adventure activities are at the end of this tour, so remember to wear flat footwear, preferably sports shoes.

It was fun sitting in the tractor-drawn vehicle (we called it the Buggy since we did not really know what it should be called) and being take around, somewhat akin to sitting in a carriage in a regal manner!

Visiting Bordi Beach

During our stay at Save Farm, Gholvad we decided to visit Bordi beach which was just 10 minutes away by auto. We had called up the auto drive a day ahead and, on the cautious advice given by the office staff, decided to venture out & return to the farm by 6p.m. We realized why that cautious advice was given to us when we reached Bordi beach.

Save Farm accommodation rates, general facilities and contact numbers

We had a totally fun-filled trip to Save Farm, Gholvad, never mind the heat! Do go at least once with your entire family for a few days. The accommodation will be well within your budget and total value for money. There are various types of cottages which are as per the number of members in your group.

Travelling to Save Farm Gholvad

We generally book reserved tickets well in advance on an express train when heading for a trip. For our recent trip to Save Farm Nursery, Gholvad for the first time in our life we decided to travel like the aam janta, in a general compartment of a long-distance passenger train.Turned out to be a totally madcap idea!!

Learning Warli Art at Save Farm Gholwad

One of the many unique activities at Save Farm, Gholwad is learning how to draw the figures incorporated in traditional Warli art designs. It is organized in the afternoons for kids, with the lessons in the the dining area.

However, it took some time for the kids who were present to get interested in doing the sketches themselves. They seemed to be content just to watch what the instructor was doing.

Service at Save Farm

The service & hospitality at Save Farm is something which others in the hospitality industry should learn. Having staff with morose faces and looking like as though they are doing a huge favour to the guests is one thing which can put you off. We were glad not to experience this even once at Save Farm.

Accommodation and room facilities at Save Farm Gholwad

Large groups can opt for cottages with multiple beds. There are adjoining rooms too in a common-roofed cottage for 2 separate families, as also modern rooms adjacent to each other near the dining area. There is thus plenty of options to choose from to stay at Save Farm, Gholwad.

Dining at Save Farm: variety is the spice of life!

Other than accommodation and service, food is the mainstay of any trip. At Save Farm, Gholwad the food was outstanding. If you want to truly savour the variety, do stay for 3 nights at least. You won’t regret it, I promise! Every day we had something special in addition to varying vegetables. The only common dishes on the daily menu were the usual staple food: dal, rice, rotis, koshimbir, green chutney, pickle, roasted papad and chaas. At breakfast, fruit pieces are served with the main dish and toasted break slices with butter are also available (as many as you want). Even the pickles were of a varying nature. Check out the menu details and photos below and I’m sure it will set you drooling.

Awaken sleeping muscles through adventure activities at Save Farm Nursery Gholvad

The most fabulous, unbelievable moments of our trip to SaveFarm nursery were the adventure sport activities. You may have seen films in which army commandos are trained to manoeuvre rope bridges and move from one place to another on zip lines. Every wondered whether you could do it? Well then, go to Save Farm to test your skills. Believe me, it will set your adrenaline pumping and literally awaken muscles in your body that you never knew existed, thanks to spending most of your hours slouched in chairs and on sofas!!

Here are some useful tips based on my experience of visiting Save Farm, Gholwad. The main tip is that there are fixed meal timings & if you are late, you will not enjoy the food cold, especially the thalipeeth which should be eaten piping hot.

Save Farm Gholwad review 2015: investing in a second home

At the end of our 4 night stay at Save Farm, Gholwad, my aunt summed it up beautifully when she said that instead of spending big bucks on a second home as a vacation home, far better would be to spend on a regular visit a couple of times in a year to Save Farm! It is such a charming, lovely agricultural retreat that it is indeed as good as staying at one’s own vacation home in the midst of nature somewhere in rural India.

Capitol Village resort Madikeri Coorg review

The name Coorg immediately brings to mind lush greenery and what better way to enjoy it than in the midst of a beautiful plantation? A couple of years ago we did just that, at the Capitol Village Holiday Resort in Madikeri for a hospitable stay in the midst of nature's picturesque settings.

Saguna Baug accommodation rates and general facilities

As mentioned earlier, paying a casual visit and enjoying a day's picnic at Saguna Baug, Neral is not a bad idea but far better is to stay there for a couple of days. Your stay will definitely be a comfortable one. What's more, it is 100% value for money, with no dent on your wallet.

Saguna Baug Neral food review

The food served to us during our stay in the Pond House rooms at Saguna Baug, Neral was wholesome, tasty and properly cooked. However, don’t expect any great variety if you are staying for many days, as the vegetable for the meals as also the breakfast items tends to be repetitive and becomes boring. As mentioned here, we were disappointed at not getting some traditional items which we had definitely expected.

Activities at Saguna Baug Neral

There is never a dull moment at Saguna Baug, Neral. Other than exploring on your own once you know your way around, you can enjoy some or all of the fun things to do. Note that all the activities mentioned are not to be done independently on your own. Each must be done accompanied by a guide (staff member).

Saguna Baug Neral review 2015

We were a bit apprehensive of the cleanliness & hygienic standards of Saguna Baug, having read quite a few scathing reviews on the Net. Let me assure you here that it is 100% clean and hygienic. All over the premises are large circular dustbins and visitors & staff do use them. A round is made by two staff members who collect the trash from each and every dustbin. We were informed that the trash is not dumped anywhere but is taken to a compost spot.

Saguna Baug Neral Pond House Rooms

Our stay in the Pond House rooms was truly fantastic. It was just heavenly to stay right in the midst of our very own pond and in rooms which were airy, bright and very clean. There are 2 rooms in the Pond House, Nos. 8 and 9. Room 8 has great side and front views, whereas Room 9's side view is the stony path.

Staying at the Pond House in Saguna Baug Neral

After reading reviews on the Net, we booked the Pond house rooms for the 4 of us. We were glad we did, as we discovered that the 3 independent cottages were near the common dining area so were basically located in a noisy section. The Pond House was far away from this area and relatively secluded & quiet. Note though, that at night it is noisy, with the sound of trains throughout the night.

Why you should stay and not just visit Saguna Baug Neral

We had heard and read that Saguna Baug is a good place for a one day picnic. Let me correct that: it is a great place to not only just spend one day, but I would strongly advise you to stay there for at least 2 nights to truly enjoy the spectacular elements of nature. My aunt summed it up beautifully, saying that you can enjoy all the elements of nature in one place, namely Sky, Earth, Air (Wind), Water and Fire.

Travelling to Saguna Baug Neral

We have just returned from a lovely trip to Nisarg Niketan, better known by its other name, Saguna Baug, located in Neral. Two of us travelled by the Koyna Express and reached Neral within a hour. Make sure (a) to take photo ID proof for the train journey and (b) keep hold of the ticket as the TC at Neral station will ask for it.

We boarded the train at Dadar station, from where it leaves at 8.52a.m. and reaches Neral Junction station at 10.05a.m. At both stations, the train halts for just 2 minutes so you have to be quick. Hence it is advisable to be ready once the train leaves Badlapur station, after which it passes through Vangani and Shelu before reaching Neral.
