Visiting Saramsa Garden Complex Gangtok Sikkim

When visiting Gangtok, Sikkim do make sure that you don't miss spending an hour or so at the Saramsa Garden Complex. This superbly maintained landscaped garden that is open to the public for a nominal entry fee was set up way back in 1922 and continues to be a treat for all senses.

The Saramsa Garden is not located in the actual city of Gangtok. You have to travel about 14-15kms from Gangtok, on the road leading to Pakyong road.

The entire garden complex has well-paved pathways for comfortable walking, quaint antique lamp posts, and everywhere - absolutely everywhere - there is a riot of colours vying for your attention.

At the entrance itself, you can expect something beautiful when you look up at the lovely archway-

Do pay attention, too, to the walls along the pathway - there are lovely paintings all the way...

A lamp post to brighten up the path -

The garden apparently was first home to fruit-laden trees and then it was later developed to include orchids and other flowers. During our visit, we saw lychees on one tree and different hued blooms with fascinating designs on the petals. There were even charming pink flowers nodding their pretty heads over a pond, as though trying to catch their own reflections!

Check out nature at its finest-

Over the years, there have been some additions to the garden complex, such as a Nursery, a Conservation Centre, medicinal plants, etc. Don't miss the viewing area towards the northern end that gives you a view of the Ranikhola river that flows past.

And, finally, have a look at the picture-perfect building in the photo below - it is a residential building and not a hotel (but does have a restaurant on the ground floor) ~ Wouldn't you love to own a home here?!
