Zeenath Taj Gardens Yelagiri review 2022

Yelagiri is a scenic hill station in Tamil Nadu and attracts a lot of people who are seeking a short break from routine. Its location within driving distance from the metros of Chennai and Bengaluru is advantageous. Having visited before, a group of my relatives headed there recently and stayed at Zeenath Taj Gardens. Yes, it is a quiet and cool resort located within a short distance of most tourist spots, including the lake, and on the face of it is pretty, but...

Don't judge a book by its cover is a well-known idiom. Well, when you enter Zeenath Taj Gardens, Yelagiri, you will likely be delighted by the general landscape.

The cottages are spaced out well, and there are also cottages with interlinked rooms. There are nice sit-out areas, too, with a bench in the shade of a canopy of trees, and an upholstered swing.

That's the cover. When you turn the pages, the real story emerges. Both indoors, and outdoors, the overall upkeep of Zeenath Taj Gardens is poor.

The group of three couples was allocated three cottages adjacent to each other. While one couple got a fairly decent room, the other rooms were not so. There was a distinct musty smell in the other two rooms, with mould visible, and not too clean curtains. The geyser in one room did not work so they were obliged to go over to the other cottage for their bath. When this was reported later, it seems the room staff was supposed to explain to the guests how to operate the geyser.

Another annoying fact was the lack of something very basic - a rod or shelf in the bathroom to hang one's clothes. So clothes had to be left outside on the bed!

In the garden area, while the upholstered sofa swing was ok, it was clearly not cleaned on a regular basis, and the swings for kids were broken.

Then there are the activities. A set of playing cards was given to the group on request. The set was not a complete one and had many duplicate cards, so no proper game of cards could be played at all. Even the carrom board did not seem to have an entire set of coins required to play a game. At least badminton racquets were available.

There is a path running on the boundary of the estate. It is referred to as a "Nature Trail" but actually it is more like overgrown and untended greenery-

As for dining, there are three spaces for this, which you can check out on their official website. The group only had lunch there and the food was ok.

Conclusion

It is not recommended to stay at Zeenath Taj Gardens currently till the management does some serious overhaul of the premises, especially the rooms, and one could consider other, better, choices at the same tariff. In fact, you will pass the Boards of many resorts while touring around Yelagiri and you could look up reviews on those.
