Learning Warli Art at Save Farm Gholwad

One of the many unique activities at Save Farm, Gholwad is learning how to draw the figures incorporated in traditional Warli art designs. It is organized in the afternoons for kids, with the lessons in the the dining area.

However, it took some time for the kids who were present to get interested in doing the sketches themselves. They seemed to be content just to watch what the instructor was doing.

The instructor was Tanvi, who distributed pencils and blank paper to the kids and any adult who was interested in sketching. Sheets of the Warli art drawings which depicted various scenes were given to us. These included farm scenes, dancers & musicians, festival celebrations, a farm worker removing toddy from a tree, a wedding procession with a bride in the palanquin, etc.

It is not too difficult, with circles and lines being the basis of all the drawings. See my artistic endeavor below!

You can see Warli art designs around the farm premises, such as on the cottage walls and benches.

Tees and caps with Warli art designs are on sale in the office, with Tees costing Rs.490 / Rs.500 for children and adults respectively and Rs.55 for the caps.
