At the end of our 4 night stay at Save Farm, Gholwad, my
aunt summed it up beautifully when she said that instead of spending big bucks
on a second home as a vacation home, far better would be to spend on a regular
visit a couple of times in a year to Save Farm! It is such a charming, lovely
agricultural retreat that it is indeed as good as staying at one’s own vacation
home in the midst of nature somewhere in rural India.
Even in your own vacation home, you would be constantly thinking of what to prepare for eating, how to spend the day and try not to get bored generally. At Save Farm, you just don’t have to bother about food or service – in fact, you don’t need to think at all about anything. Just relax and let time wander its own course. Speaking of time, though, you do have to adhere to the meal timings, as I mentioned in my post on food.
By the way, it must be mentioned here that don’t expect that
it will not be hot just because it is a farm enclosed in greenery. It is
definitely hot! Nevertheless, don't forget to try out the adventure activities.
The office, cottage accommodations, dining area and swimming
pool are all located in one area near the bungalow of the owner Prabhakar Save,
while the farm itself is located in another area.
You are free to roam around
in the farm area on your own, but note that it is all a rough, stony terrain
and can get tiring. It is best to go in the group outing in the motorized buggy
when the farm tour is conducted.
There is a lovely raised deck area accessible by a short
ladder and ropeway. You should spend time here as it is the coolest area. One person at a time should ascend and descend and only 10 person maximum should be up on the deck. Note though, that there is no picturesque view from here.

A little distance away from the deck is a small fish pond
with lotuses and a gazebo which is accessible with a little bridge. There are a
variety of fish in the pond, including long orange ones. There are even a
couple of frogs that keep leaping in and out, startling you no end! The pond
is not as picturesque as the ones we saw at Saguna Baug, Neral. It is more like
a small water body.
However, the pathway itself is charming, lined by various
flowering plants with flowers literally in your face, as though to say a cheery
“Hello!”
Another constant "conversation" takes place between the towering coconut trees - stand quietly anywhere and you can here the gentle rustling.
There are plenty of fruit trees around – lemons, chikoos,
water apples, mangoes and coconuts. While walking around, don’t be surprised if
a fruit lands smack on you! Anil Save, the owner’s brother, showed us how to
use the specially shaped stick to remove water apples from the tree.
