Gulmohar Homestay - overeview with accommodation rates and contact info

A charming home, unpolluted air in the midst of greenery, good food - what more do you
need on a vacation at a homestay?! The figurine in the first image below aptly sums up our stay at Gulmohar Homestay, Nashik. It fulfilled our expectations of having a relaxed weekend, doing absolutely nothing and thoroughly enjoying it!

A plus point was having homemade food cooked exactly to the T as per our request. The place was homely, with lovely decor and furnishings in the main house and in our rooms as well, located in the midst of nature. All in all, we had a nice time with caring, friendly hosts Kamala and Vinod Parekh.

This is how a vacation should be!

First off, let’s start with the location. You may find this place out of the way since it is some distance from the main city of Nashik, but it is convenient for a stopover if you wish to visit Trimbakeshwar and would like to halt mid-way, having travelled from Mumbai to Nashik by road or bus or train.

How to reach
You can inform the hosts in advance if arriving by train and they can arrange for a pickup by auto (Rs.500/-) or let you know if a car hire service is available for a larger group. Note that you should get off at Nashik Road Railway station, as that is about 25kms. away and not at Deolali station which is further away (about 35kms) and may cost more, approx.Rs.1000/-. The hosts informed us that most people hire Ola cabs, as these are less expensive, which meets them at the railway station. There are also private buses which bring people into Nashik city which is about 12 to 13kms from Gulmohar Homestay. Private cabs bring people to the Homestay from Mumbai for approximately Rs 2500/-. Once you decide which transport mode you will use, the hosts can give suggestions on how to reach their home.
A quick glimpse from our Auto of Nashik city –

A quick stopover to buy the local popular Kondaji Chivda (frankly, found it too salty and didn’t much like it!)

And we were on our way, with sometimes amazing greenery and charming homes which reminded me of the childhood toy houses –

A sudden burst of magnificent lavender –

A sad sight of a dry rivulet, which was an indication of how water levels are drying up everywhere –

And, finally, the welcoming sight of the Board heralding our arrival at the rural hub of Belgaon Dhaga –

Another point to note is that if you are going to arrive there directly in your own vehicle, you can follow the directions given on their website. Note that in case you ask for directions when you arrive within the Nashik city limits, mention the road name and Parekh Farm as this is the name it is better known by, rather than asking for directions to Gulmohar Homestay. They have parking space for your vehicle within the premises.

Overview
This is a general overview of Gulmohar Homestay. More details of the rooms where we stayed, the food and lovely greenery are updated with photos, in separate posts. You can also read my review at Trip Advisor
There are two rooms in the bungalow, each with an attached bathroom with provision for hot water. The beds in the room can be separated into twin beds if required. There are also two additional beds just outside the main bedroom. Each section for each room has its own entry/exit door. Thus, for example, two different families can stay within one section separate from the other section or occupy the entire two spaces together.

Our room at Gulmohar Homestay

We got lovely glimpses of the early morning sun from our room's window and was captured on the wall as well -

Early morning

While we had our meals in the dining room of the house, breakfast was in a charming covered space outdoors. Other than the rooms in the home, there are large spacious rooms at the back of the main house. These have a higher tariff and can accommodate larger families too. We were shown one room which had an outdoor shower area in addition to the washroom indoors. An interesting aspect was the bit of greenery just outside the inner sliding doors, sort of a like a mini-patio.

There is quite a bit of greenery all around the homestay, spread out in the same thoughtful manner as the interior of the home. The beautiful flora is part of nature at its best at Gulmohar Homestay.

Gulmohar Homestay is pet-friendly, with the hosts having three dogs, Coco, Luna, and Kiki, and a cat.

You are welcome to bring your pets, provided you take care of them yourself and bring along all the necessary provisions for the pets. And don't forget to have fun with a self-created treasure hunt

Tariff
The tariff during our visit in April 2019: Double occupancy room tariff is Rs 3000/- per night, with breakfast included. An extra person is Rs 1500/- per night. The cost of meals (lunch, dinner) is Rs.350/- per person for a vegetarian meal and Rs.450/- per person for a non-vegetarian meal.
